Online play rules in Ontario
Online casino play in Ontario runs inside a regulated market with its own rules. This page explains who runs it, who regulates it and how to tell a regulated site from one outside the market.
How the market works
Ontario's regulated online gambling market began on April 4, 2022. Two bodies share the work, with separate jobs. iGaming Ontario conducts and manages the market. Regulation is a job for AGCO, whose full name is Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Running the market and regulating it are different roles held by different bodies.
The legal age is 19, the same for online play as for casinos. Age is only half of it. Play is allowed only for those physically located in Ontario. Accounts cannot be used to wager from outside the province, so an Ontario account does not travel with its holder.
Checking a site
iGaming Ontario publishes, at igamingontario.ca, which online gambling sites are regulated. That list is the test. Whatever a site's own pages say, if it is absent from the list, Ontario's regulated market does not include it.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation is the provincial agency, and OLG.ca is its online site. A name is checked against the list on igamingontario.ca, not against anything a site says about itself.
Ways to stop
iGaming Ontario has operated BetGuard, found at betguard.ca, since May 14, 2026. Through it, a person can shut themselves out of every regulated Ontario gambling site, OLG.ca among them, for a custom term or for 1 year, 6 months or 5 years. It does not cover land-based casinos.
Under OLG's My PlayBreak, a person self-excludes from Ontario casinos for land-based play: 1 to 5 years, or 3 or 6 months. To apply, contact the OLG Support Centre on 1-800-387-0098, a PlaySmart Centre or staff on site. Once set, the term cannot be cancelled early. ConnexOntario answers 24/7, free and confidential: call 1-866-531-2600, text CONNEX to 247247, or chat at connexontario.ca.
Paid links on this site
Paid links exist on one page here, the home page: three, each marked Ad, all leading to one shared online casino partner. They are for Ontario only, and players must be physically located in the province. The site earns a commission, and the partner can change. None appear on this page, and the site takes no money from casinos, hotels, OLG or help services.
